Age Wise – Road Safety

Road Safety (Age wise):  A free refresher course for those over 65 to revise the road rules to keep driving safely.  Locate this information on the Rotorua Council website under Road Safety.    Additionally Driving On,  is a free practical driving programme for the same age group to refresh and improve their driving knowledge and skills.  The venue for this is Taupo Ricoh Motorsport Park.   Contact Rotorua Lakes Council for further information.

Life Unlimited – Hearing Services

Life Unlimited Hearing Therapy Services is a national service funded by the Ministry of Health.  Providing free Adult Aural Rehabilitation services to NZ citizens and permanent residents from 16 years of age.  Assistance is available for hearing evaluation, Tinnitus management and Meniere’s disease.  Life Unlimited have stores that stock a wide range of independent living and mobility products.

St John – Health Shuttle Service

St John Health Shuttle is a free community service transporting people to and from essential medical and health related appointments.  Although there is no charge a donation is appreciated to cover costs.  ($5 is the ‘rule of thumb’ fare, but happy with any donation that a client can afford without causing barriers if cost is a factor)

equires 48hrs notice.  Please ring to arrange and if no answer, leave a message with your phone number so you can be called back. Hearing impaired can communicate via email.  Note:  Thursday is their busiest day with waitlists possible.  Suggested ‘best’ days are Wednesday and Friday.

Freedom Drivers

Freedom Companion Drivers offer affordable personalised companion services for those unable to drive themselves.  Services include driving to appointments, airport, social engagements or if required for children’s school transportation.  All Freedom Drivers are ACC registered vendors accepting Total Mobility vouchers in some regions.

Total Mobility – Bay of Plenty Regional Council

A Bay of Plenty Regional Council Service.  Total Mobility is a nationwide scheme designed to help eligible people with impairments, offering support for the use of door to door transport services.  Registered users must carry a Total Mobility photo ID card to be able to use vouchers.
